The construction of the Changing Places facility at Ocean Grove Main Beach is almost complete, with only minor works remaining.
Internal fit-out of the facility is finished, including installation of the adult-sized change table, ceiling hoist, toilet and shower, privacy screen and accessible circulation space. Two new accessible carparks are now in place, along with new stairs, handrails, a retaining wall, and fencing. Garden beds are being mulched and planted, with the majority of temporary fencing to be removed this week.
The final pathway section will be built next week and temporary barriers will help guide pedestrians safely around the area. Solar lighting bollards will follow in a few weeks once delivered.
The Access Consultant will complete their final assessment on Monday, and once certification is received, the facility will be registered as an official Changing Places toilet.
Changing Places toilets are designed for people with high support needs. They provide more space than a standard accessible toilet and feature equipment such as a height-adjustable adult change table and ceiling hoist. These facilities require a Master Locksmith Access Key (MLAK) for entry.
To use the Changing Places facility at Main Beach, you’ll need your own MLAK and sling (slings are not provided). In an emergency, temporary access options may be available via Barwon Coast or Ocean Grove SLSC during business hours.
Visit here for more information on how to order a MLAK key and to check eligibility. If you have a Victorian Companion Card you may be eligible for a free MLAK.
We’ll share another update once the facility officially opens to the public!
