Essential safety works completed at Barwon Heads Caravan Park

Published on 17 March 2025

Barwon Coast has recently completed essential safety works on the iconic Moonah tree at the entrance to Barwon Heads Caravan Park. These works were carried out to ensure the safety of the community, campers, and staff while preserving this much-loved tree.

Careful assessment and action

Following regular monitoring and a recent independent arborist assessment, two high-risk trunks were removed, while the main trunk has been retained. An aerial inspection was also conducted to assess the ongoing health of the remaining trunk.

Commitment to conservation

Barwon Coast consulted with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners throughout the process and remains committed to preserving the coastal environment. As part of this commitment, five new Moonah trees have been planted within the coastal reserve managed by Barwon Coast, ensuring the long-term presence of this important species.

We appreciate the community’s understanding and support as we continue to care for our coastal environment.
